Overall objectives
- Know how to carry out the functional dimensioning process, in accordance with current ISO GPS standards:
- Analysis of functional requirements.
- Contact/non-contact analysis, associated requirements and determination/optimization of preponderance in interfaces.
- ISO GPS dimensioning of interfaces/references.
- Complete functional dimensioning.
- Tolerancing and optimization of dimensioning, taking into account 2D/3D effects and the impact of process capabilities.
Learning operational objectives
- If necessary, read a drawing associated with an existing design with a critical view:
- Understand functional requirements.
- Rapid analysis/criticism of dimension chains.
- Analyze/critique dimensioning reference frames.
- Analyze/critique physical control conditions (for deformable parts).
- Understand the functional dimensioning language described in current ISO GPS standards:
- Dimensional tolerancing.
- Geometric tolerancing.
- Jig tolerancing.
- Know how to choose the right quotation strategy according to the cases encountered on the organizing company's products.
- Carry out tolerance allocation using "worst-case" or "statistical" dimension chains, taking the following elements into account:
- Controlling the risks taken (over-quality/non-conforming assembly with conforming parts), depending on the tolerancing method chosen.
- Dimensioning analyses to minimize the number of links.
- Centering of the functional condition on its target.
- Calculate sensitivities for 2D/3D dimension chains.
- Optimization of the dimension chain and allocation of the widest possible tolerances.
The "Pluses" of the training session
- Tailor-made training based on examples of the host company's products and plans (case studies used if necessary).
- Theoretical parts organized in a dynamic and interactive way (workshops in subgroups, quizzes, questions, etc.).
- This training includes a 6-months period of post training support (email exchanges, webinars, phone, response time depending on the trainer’s availability).
Organization and resources
- Each attendee receives a training manual in English as well as exercise and workshop files used during the session.
- For face-to-face training, the room must have a video projector as well as a flipchart and a whiteboard with coloured markers in working order.
Evaluation mode
- Level assessment quizzes for each attendee at the beginning and the end of the training session.
- Hot satisfaction questionnaire completed by each attendee at the end of the training.
- Cold evaluation questionnaire, to evaluate achievements realized after the training completed 3 months after training, by each attendee, with their hierarchy.
Targeted audience
- Anyone who needs to implement ISO GPS functional dimensioning as part of a design process.
Prerequisite
- At least 1 year professional experience in either production, project management, industrial engineering, quality, product design and engineering.
- To have experience of the organizing company's products.
- To have experience in mechanical design in the context of the company organizing the training.
Trainer profile
- Holds master’s diploma from top tier engineering school (Centrale, INSA, Arts et Métiers, UTC). Equivalent to Master's degree in industrial engineering.
- 20 years' experience in mechanical design (mechanical calculations, ISO dimensioning, blueprint reading, 2D/3D tolerancing), value and functional analysis, FMEA, in an industrial environment.

Accessibility policy
All our training courses are accessible to the disabled, people with reduced mobility, visually impaired and hard of hearing.
As part of our accessibility policy, we have set up a partnership with Atout-caP, to ensure that each participant receives appropriate support. Thanks to this partnership, we benefit from the expertise of an external disability referent, Amandine Pillot, who is systematically consulted to adapt our training courses to the specific needs of the learners concerned.
In order to offer you the best possible welcome, we ask you to inform us of any disability as soon as you register. This will give us the time we need to make the appropriate adjustments.
